Joint Admissions Testing Program (JATP)
Dr. Frey participates in the Joint Admissions Testing Program (JATP), which provides cognitive evaluations for children applying to kindergarten through fifth grades to participating schools. The test is administered on a one-on-one basis, and takes approximately 40 to 75 minutes to complete (depending on age).
Click here to visit the JATP website for more information on the electronic registration, payment procedure and current policies.
The JATP fee covers the testing and sending the results to the JATP schools you have chosen. You will receive an overview of your child's test results (ability ranges) no later than 10 days after testing. If you would like further explanation of the test results and consultation regarding your child's performance, you may schedule a follow-up appointment for a standard JATP fee of $200.00. These consultations are provided as an additional service; they are not required by the JATP schools. The feedback session includes a written report, explicitly prepared for you, including all test scores that the schools receive and observations of your child during the assessment. In addition, follow-up consultations provide an opportunity for you to discuss with the psychologist related questions you may have about your child's development.
The test administered assesses a range of cognitive abilities that are related to school readiness. The intent of the test is to assess a child’s performance under a fixed set of conditions. It is not intended to test the limits of your child’s knowledge. Although there are individual variations, testing sessions typically last 40 to 45 minutes for younger children and 55 - 75 minutes for children 6 years and older.
If you later decide that would like to have the results available to additional JATP schools, you simply add the new applications through the Ravenna system. Please remember that test results are available only to schools that participate in JATP.
Visit the JATP website (www.jatp.org) to download and save the fillable PDF application form. When you have completed all questions, save the PDF again to your computer and email the application to the psychologist of your choice. You will receive a confirmation that the application has been received, along with instructions for completing the electronic payment. Upon receipt of your JATP registration and payment, the psychologist will contact you for an appointment. Testing of applicants begins in October, and early contact with the psychologist is encouraged. A JATP registration can only be submitted to one psychologist.
After setting the appointment with the psychologist, please “delegate” the psychologist in your Ravenna account so that test results can be entered into the system. This is done by entering the psychologist’s name and email in the appropriate field within any one of your school applications. A school application only has to be started (not necessarily completed) in Ravenna, and you only need to delegate the psychologist once. Parents do not receive test results until the delegation step is completed.
To ensure test validity, the test should be administered only once a year.
